Cheesy French Onion Potatoes

A comforting dish that combines the rich flavors of French onion soup with creamy, cheesy potatoes.

  • 1 (10-oz) can French onion soup
  • 1 (1-oz) envelope dry onion soup mix
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 2.5 lbs russet potatoes, sliced
  • 2 cups shredded gruyere cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the russet potatoes by scrubbing them under cold water and slicing into 1/4 inch thick slices.
  3. Melt the butter in a pot or microwave until bubbling.
  4. Mix the French onion soup with the dry onion soup mix and melted butter in a large bowl.
  5. Layer a third of the potato slices in a baking dish, followed by the soup mixture and a sprinkle of cheese; repeat twice more.
  6. Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden.
  7. Check for doneness with a fork.
  8. Serve and enjoy your cheesy, creamy potatoes!

Notes

Feel free to customize with protein or veggies. For a lighter option, substitute butter with olive oil.
